The very first print of this series was made in 1998 as part of a project by the Grafisch Atelier Alkmaar. It consisted of a print-box created by 5 artists and commissioned by the mayor of the Dutch town of Alkmaar, with the city flag as its theme. Every winter since then, several drawings and prints are added to this series. Here, the artist is trying to recall and evoke the feeling of warmth through colours, form and structure. As it happens, these prints are a very good remedy for "winter depression", a disease widespread in The Netherlands and other countries in the north-western world.
